چکیده

This paper reports a numerical study of the sensitivity and applicability Nonlinear Coda Wave Interferometry (NCWI) method in heterogeneous material with localized microcracked zone. We model influence strong pump wave on zone as small average increase length each crack. Further probing this multiply scattered ultrasonic induces changes to coda-type signal, which are quantified coda interferometry. A parametric CWI observables respect crack is established via simulations problem using 2D spectral element (SEM2D). The stretching proportional relative variation effective velocity, found be linearly global change length, while other parameter, remnant decorrelation coefficient, quadratically change. Coda wave interferometry for estimating nonlinear behavior in seismic velocity.

In coda wave interferometry, one records multiply scattered waves at a limited number of receivers to infer changes in the medium over time. With this technique, we have determined the nonlinear dependence of the seismic velocity in granite on temperature and the associated acoustic emissions. This technique can be used in warning mode, to detect the presence of temporal changes in the medium, ...

Detecting medium changes from coda by interferometry

In many applications, sequestering CO2 underground for example, determining whether or not the medium has changed is of primary importance, with secondary goals of locating and quantifying that change. We consider an acoustic model of the Earth as a sum of a smooth background velocity, isolated velocity jumps and random small scale fluctuations. Although the first two parts of the model can be ...

The theory of coda wave interferometry

Coda waves are sensitive to changes in the subsurface because the strong scattering that generates these waves causes coda waves to repeatedly sample a limited region of space. Coda wave interferometry is a technique that exploits this sensitivity to estimate weak changes in the medium from a comparison of the coda waves before and after the perturbation. Here I present the general theory of co...

Correcting for bias due to noise in coda wave interferometry

S U M M A R Y Coda wave interferometry (CWI) utilizes multiply scattered waves to diagnose small changes in a medium by using the scattering medium as an interferometer. Since the medium is usually stationary over the duration of a seismic experiment, different (non-overlapping) time windows in the coda allow for independent estimates of the medium perturbation. If the seismograms are contamina...
